Happy Yoga Day

Hey, you guys!

Today is the 4th International Yoga Day. It makes me really happy that because of dedicating a day to Yoga, so much awareness is created for it. But at the same time, it makes me sad that people only practice yoga on this one day (social media pressure?) and then forget about it, just like a New Years’ Resolution.

As much as I love Yoga, I don’t love Yoga Day. I am the happiest after my yoga sessions, but there is so much to Yoga than celebrating it for one day. There is so much more to Yoga than just Asana and Pranayama. Did you know that there are 8 limbs of Yoga: Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi? And how many do we practice out of these, just two? There are 195 Sutras given by Sage Patanjali, and out of them, only 3 are dedicated to Asanas. And yet we fail to understand that there is more to Yoga than just Asana.

Even though I am a Yoga Teacher, I still don’t believe or rather accept that. I am a learner for life. Every day I get to learn something new and that is the beauty of this field. I am grateful that other things didn’t work out for me. I am grateful for a bad phase in my life that led me to Yoga, from attending classes to having the interest to study it in depth. I am what I am today because of Yoga. There are numerous ways in which yoga has helped me to become a better person. And I will forever be grateful to that.

I would just like to conclude by saying don’t give just one day to Yoga, but dedicate every day to Yoga and let it help you to transform your life.
