People from other parts of the country have this belief that Mumbaikars have a lot of attitude in them and don’t give a damn about other people. You know what? Try visiting Mumbai on a day like today, when almost the whole city is submerged under water. Offices have asked the employees to go home, schools and colleges have been shut down, basically, the hustle and bustle life of Mumbai has come to a standstill. The roads are flooded, the cars are stuck in them, the lifeline of Mumbai has been shut down, and people have come out on the roads to safely reach home.
What positive can we take out of this situation? Everything! Every stranger on the road is trying to help the other stranger that they bump into. Helping each other to call home, giving shelter and food to random people, allowing strangers into their houses to remain safe, helping random people from the streets by giving them lifts and filling their cars with as many people as they can, and what not. If this isn’t unity, then I don’t know what is!
All the Gurudwaras, Churches, and Temples across Mumbai have opened their doors to people for food and shelter, irrespective of their caste and religion. If this isn’t unity, then I don’t know what is!
Mumbai has faced such a situation earlier, in 2005, and yet again, history has repeated itself. This time, more than half of the city is dug up, but that hasn’t stopped Mumbaikars from fighting the situation. The government has also tried to do their bit by managing the traffic and helping people, media reporters are on the street in waist deep waters to give an update to all the people sitting at home, giving them instructions to stay indoors, if this isn’t unity, then I don’t know what is!
Mumbai has been knocked down several times, but it has still emerged strongly as ever! THAT is the spirit of Mumbai, THIS is my Mumbai.
This is the spirit of Mumbai, I don’t think you can find this anywhere else, and that’s what makes it beautiful,!
We have done this before, and we did it yet again!
United we stand, Mumbai!
A huge shout out to all the Mumbaikars!
PS: I hope you and your family are safe indoors.
